Meetings: The union is a democratic organisation and encourages its members to become active participants. So, attend your worksite meetings and any special meetings called. Come as an observer to Council meetings. Stand For Election:
Any
financial
member can nominate for the position of Worksite Rep, Occupational
Health
& Safety Rep, Councillor or even for Branch Secretary or Branch
Assistant
Secretary. There are some worksites which do not have a Worksite Rep,
because
no one has been committed or interested enough to nominate. A
nomination form for Worksite Representative is available here. Working Parties: From time to time working parties are established consisting of ordinary members, honorary and paid officials, to research certain issues and report to Council Committees. Women: More than half of our members are women. Our lowest paid workers are women, yet most of our honorary officials are men. There is therefore a golden opportunity for committed women to become PSA/CPSU officials and to raise issues of concern to women. Seminars: Occasional seminars are held on issues or on areas of concern. Council Committees: Members with a special interest and a contribution to make can be a co-opted member of these committees. Union Training: Worksite Rep and Occupational Health & Safety Rep courses are conducted regularly by the PSA/CPSU. These courses are for Worksite Reps, Occupational Health & Safety Reps or for people interested in becoming a Rep. Remember that PSA/CPSU members are entitled to 10 day's union-training leave, with pay, every two years. More information is available on the Training page. Meeting Procedures: Unsure of the standing orders of meetings? Lack confidence in speaking at meetings? Contact your Representative who can organise literature or courses on meeting procedures. Information: Read the Public Sector Review and any other PSA/CPSU literature. Write an article or letter to the Review. Advise your Worksite Rep if you want more material or information on union-related matters. Facilities & Entitlements: You pay your dues - so you're entitled to the privileges and entitlements of PSA/CPSU membership. |
