SSOs and Retention Leave

31 July 2017

SSOs are entitled to accumulate retention leave for each completed month of effective service in each financial year after 15 years of service.

Information on eligibility; how to apply; using this leave in conjunction with long service leave; and access to a number of related documents can be found on the DECD website.

Members can convert retention leave from the previous financial year (and leave accrued during the 2011-12 financial year) to a monetary payment by submitting their request for conversion between 1 July and 31 August each year, using the skills and experience retention entitlement form, found on the DECD web page.

Members are reminded that if they do not take the leave within five years of its accrual, or elect to convert the eligible part of their entitlement to a monetary payment, it will be forfeited. (However, leave accrued during the transition period 2011-2012 cannot be lost before 1 July 2018.)

The PSA advises members to seek clarification of their own particular circumstances with Shared Services Payroll Team 05.
