A Win for The Statewide Gambling Therapy Service: Thank You for Your Support

18 July 2017

In the most recent State Budget, it was announced that the Statewide Gambling Therapy Service (SGTS) is to remain funded until at least 2018. The Public Service Association (PSA) will continue the fight into the future for continued funding of the service.

The SGTS are an important and hugely successful public mental health service focusing on gambling rehabilitation in SA.

The service was due to close in December 2016, with the contract for the service tendered out by government to a private provider and staff set to lose their jobs.

The PSA ran a campaign ‘Don’t Gamble Away our Public Services’ (see attached flyer) with a petition and lobbied against privatisation, the continuation of the service and to save our members jobs.

The PSA lobbied for the service to be funded through new online gambling taxes, introduced in the 2016 state budget. These taxes will now fund the service until at least 2018.

Thank you to everyone who helped in this campaign and signed the petition. We would not have had this win without your support. This win goes to show that we are stronger together, and the gains that can be made when union members support each other.
