Drug and Alcohol Policy – SAET Conference Postponed

10 August 2018

The Public Service Association (PSA) was due to be heard on Thursday 9 August 2018 in the South Australian Employment Tribunal (SAET) regarding the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) Drug and Alcohol Policy and Program. On the morning of the hearing the PSA received a request to postpone the hearing due to DPTI representatives being unable to attend the hearing.

The PSA agreed to the postponement provided that the status-quo provision of ‘no random testing’ is to continue. This has now been agreed to. The hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday 23 August 2018.

The PSA remains committed to ensuring that the draconian and unnecessary components of the policy are removed and will continue to pursue the concerns raised by members, including that the Department has failed to adequately explain the need for this policy.

A number of DPTI Worksite Representatives had agreed to attend the hearing. The commitment of your Worksite Representatives to address this policy and the issues arising from it shows the importance of ensuring that the PSA has Worksite Representatives throughout the Department.

To date, the PSA has also received no information about how DPTI plans to consult with Service SA, the Office of Valuer General and Office of Registrar General staff.

The PSA will continue to keep members informed throughout this process. Unless you are covered by the Rail Safety Legislation, you will not be subjected to random testing at this stage.
