New Prisoner Accommodation at AWP to Open as Totally Smoke Free

13 October 2017

Following a number of conciliation conferences in the SA Employment Tribunal (SAET), agreement was reached to open the new Adelaide Women’s Prison (AWP) Ruby Unit (Stage 1) prisoner accommodation as totally smoke free.

Agreement was also reached to convert the current Opal Unit to a total smoke free status within two months.

These Units will be totally smoke free in all areas including exercise yards and prisoner common areas.

This is a good outcome for members who are simply requesting a smoke free working environment.

The PSA will continue its negotiations with DCS and the Government to establish a total smoke free roll out at all prison sites.
