Proposed Closure of DPTI ‘Re-sheeting Unit: Outback Roads’

11 October 2018

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has announced the proposed closure of the ‘Re-sheeting Unit’ in the Outback Section of the Department at the end this year.

The announcement comes after a State Budget that slashed jobs across the public sector and included reducing services through privatisations and outsourcing. Members have already raised concerns that the private sector will not be able to provide the same level of quality and service for this work.

As part of the changes the Department has proposed to introduce new Maintenance Teams with existing Department staff to fill some of these roles. The current structure can be found here and the proposed structure can be found here.

The proposed structure contains fewer roles than the current structure. A number of the roles proposed to be abolished are currently vacant including the Graduate Engineer and Resource Coordinator positions. However not all roles that are proposed to be abolished are indicated as currently vacant.

The PSA has meet with members following the announcement and have concerns about the closure of this unit which the PSA will be outlining in our feedback.

As part of the requirements under the South Australian Modern Public Sector Enterprise Agreement: Salaried 2017, the Department has begun consultation on the proposal. Members can provide feedback in a number of ways including through the PSA. All responses sent to the PSA will be kept confidential and will be provided to the Department as one PSA submission.

Feedback can be sent to PSA by email to before 5:00pm on Wednesday 17 October 2018.
