Release of “The Oakden Report”

21 April 2017

The report contains six detailed recommendations which include:

  •     Closing the Oakden Campus and transferring residents to alternative mental health and aged care facilities
  •     Increasing allied health staffing during this transition period
  •     Developing a new statewide Model of Care for this client group. The SA Government’s response indicates they have accepted, and will implement, all of the review’s recommendations.

The report, SA Government's Response, a Frequently Asked Questions document and other information can be found on SA Health’s website here.

The governance of Oakden currently sits under the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), who will hold a special Industrial Relations Forum with Unions regarding this matter. The PSA will also meet with affected OPMHS members over the next week.

Forensic Mental Health Staff (Community Mental Health and Court Reporting Services) who are co-located in an an adjacent building on the same site will also be required to relocate due to this process. No time frames or alternative locations have been proposed at this point. The PSA will also meet with these members once further information has been provided.

The PSA is aware that this may be a difficult period for members and will continue to provide advocacy and support and keep members updated throughout this process.
