SA Health – Draft Policy Directive for Consultation

14 November 2018

The Public Service Association (PSA) has received the draft Hospital Discharge and Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) Policy Directive from SA Health, which is now out for consultation (here).

The consultation period gives members an opportunity to help shape this policy directive that will be implemented state wide once approved, as required by your enterprise agreement the South Australian Modern Public Sector Enterprise Agreement: Salaried 2017.

The PSA is aware that earlier this year a Steering Group was formed to develop a CLD to coordinate a statewide approach to the implementation of CLD. It is concerning that the Steering Group only included representatives form the Department for Health and Wellbeing, medical leads from the Local Health Networks (LHNs) in partnership with South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Association representatives. No other unions or other disciplines were represented at that stage.

The Steering Group, after reviewing existing policy and national best practice related to discharge processes, supported the recommendation to combine the Criteria Led Discharge and Discharge Lounge Directive and System Wide Discharge Directive into a single policy that includes the CLD requirements.

The draft policy details key principles that underpin effective hospital discharge planning with the intent to enable CLD. The intent is for the CLD workflow to be completed by the CLD accredited staff member who discharges the patient.

Members are encouraged to raise any issues or feedback on the proposed draft Policy Directive to PSA by email by midday, 30 November 2018.
