TAFE SA Campus Closures - Consultation Regarding Proposals for Parafield and Tea Tree Gully Relocations

28 November 2018

The Public Service Association (PSA) was invited to the all of TAFE SA staff Skype meeting, facilitated by Interim Chief Executive (CE) Alex Reid, on Friday 23 November 2018. The PSA attended the meeting at the Adelaide Campus.

The Interim CE provided information including, but not limited to, the following:

  • The background regarding the closures/relocations;
  • Purpose and membership of the Campus Transition Governance Committee;
  • Purpose and membership of the site specific Campus Consultative Committees (as required);
  • Broad overview of proposals for relocation of programs from Parafield and Tea Tree Gully (TTG) campuses, including proposed commencement dates of those programs, and impact on the campuses proposed to receive programs;
  • Proposed consultation plans for staff and students (both at campuses that are closing and those proposed to receive programs), other stakeholders such as community, organisations/companies at those campuses, other stakeholders, and unions, including the PSA;
  • Specific communications and individual contact to those students, both continuing and new, who are at Parafield or TTG campuses, or prospective students who have chosen TTG on their application;
  • Further scripting for TAFE SA staff regarding the above;
  • Removal of TTG from the website as a campus that can be selected for study as of 23 November 2018;
  • Reminder of student support via Student Services, and staff support via the Employee Assistance Program;
  • Consultation closing on 7 December 2018, with finalisation of knowing where programs will relocate to by 14 December 2018, so that staff and students know this information prior to semester break but with caveat that if urgent/unforeseen matters arise that need further discussion these will be addressed first;
  • Acknowledgement that some other processes associated with the transitions may take longer than finalisation before Christmas due to other complexities (for example, Learning Resource Centre at Parafield due to shared arrangement with private company); and
  • Reassurance of no reduction in training activity and no reduction of staff FTE through these processes.

The Interim CE advised that all information, including a recording of the meeting and the proposal plans, is now available on the TAFE SA intranet. The PSA has also received this information from TAFE SA.

Some questions were asked at the meeting that have been captured to form part of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). The Interim CE advised that regular FAQs and updates would be provided on the intranet page. The PSA has also received assurance from TAFE SA Human Resources/Industrial Relations that this information will also be forwarded to the PSA.

TAFE SA has invited the PSA to provide feedback to these proposals. Please forward any comments to PSA by close of business Wednesday 5 December 2018 to allow them to be included in a collated and non-identifying manner in the PSA's response.
