Recruitment is not a sales process it is about workplace organisation built around concerns voiced by employees working together. It is about recognising that genuine organisation and collectivism are still the best ways of winning justice and dignity for employees in State Government Departments, Statutory Authorities, the Health Commission, Universities and schools. Wherever you work in the public sector, you are enjoying salaries and conditions won and maintained by PSA/CPSU efforts.

As a member you can:

1. Contact PSA/CPSU Recruitment Officer on (08) 8205 3200 to work out who the potential members are.
2. Contact all potential members on a one-to-one basis.
3. Acquire monthly lists of new members who have joined your agency to make sure they know who their rep is and to contact them and make them feel welcome. Try to involve them actively in the union if possible.
4. Make sure recruitment is an agenda item and Worksite Reps meetings.

Be low key and friendly, no hard-sell; find out what they want from the union - they will join for their reasons not ours: talk with them, build an understanding; listen without interrupting; respect their views (you don't have to agree); avoid arguments; talk about PSA's strengths; don't overwhelm then with information; don't use union jargon; if you don know something, admit it, obtain the information and get back to them.
