Affiliations CPSU - The Community and Public Sector Union, (SPSF Group) SA Branch is the federally registered body representing PSA members. Participation in the Federal scene is important because many State funding issues, ie where the money comes from to pay your salary, are being determined. It's vital for members to have a national voice that is heard speaking clearly and firmly in their interests. The difference between this body and other affiliations is that each individual PSA member elects to join the CPSU rather than the PSA joining the CPSU as a whole. It should be pointed out that there is no additional cost to the individual member to be part of the CPSU. Affiliations with other labour movement bodies- The union has, in recent years, affiliated with some other bodies. There are a number of significant advantages that result in these affiliations which will be explained in the following brief summaries. SA Unions - SA Unions is the peak union body in South Australia and plays a vital role in representing and serving the South Australian labour movement. SA Unions meets monthly and any member may attend as a 'proxy' for a delegate or as an observer. Contact us if you would like to attend. ACTU - As part of the CPSU we also have affiliation with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) which entitles us to send delegates to the ACTU Congress. Representation within the ACTU is very important because it allows input by State public sector workers into an extremely important decision-making forum. The CPSU (SPSF Group) is represented on the ACTU Executive. Political Affiliations - The PSA is not affiliated with any political party. This enables the union to confront and deal effectively with industrial issues, no matter which party forms Government. |
