FLINDERS UNIVERSITY ENTERPRISE BARGAINING 2009
A
Heads of Agreement salary offer has been made by the Flinders
University to staff. The time frame and duration of the Agreement
is:-
* Three years from 1 July 2008; nominal expiry date of 30 June 2011. Salary percentage increases and timing. The new Agreement will provide for further salary increases of 1.4% on the first pay period after the date of certification, 2% from the first pay period in July 2010, 2% from the first pay period in January 2011 and 2% from the last pay period in June 2011. In total, the percentage salary increase will be 9.5% (9.86% compounded), inclusive of the 2.1% increase paid on 3 January 2009. The university has asked the unions for a response to the proposal by 9 July. Deakin University has finalised a Heads of Agreement for 17.1% over three years, improved workloads and more transparent general staff reclassifications. Pay increases will start this year, with an additional sign-on bonus of $1000 (non-superannuable) for full-time staff. Part-time and casual staff will get a pro-rata payment. Victoria University has signed a Heads of Agreement stop gap for 4% on September 1 expiring on 31 December 2009 with improved casual loadings whilst the University of Sydney has has agreeed to a 17% pay rise over 3 years. CPSU is bargaining in difficult economic times. Economic growth has slowed significantly. Australian economic growth forecast is 1.4% in 2009 and 0.6% in 2010. Inflation growth has slowed significantly with the forecast to slow to 2% by late 2010 and 1.5% through 2011. Wages growth is slowing in line with inflation. There is likely to be a negative impact on international student enrolment due to the global financial crisis. The Federal Budget is heavily weighted to capital funding. CPSU acknowledges that there are differences in incomes for all universities dependent on factors such as outlined above. The combined unions are unlikely to accept an offer that is less than 16% over the three years of the agreement but this is subject to the responses of our members.
