The Public Service Association has welcomed today's announcement that the Modbury Hospital will return to public ownership and operation.

PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon said today “The previous Liberal Government's decision to sell off this vital public asset has proven to have been a costly failed exercise in privatisation.”

At the time of the sale of Modbury Hospital the PSA warned the Government of the day of the dangers, both economically and in terms of service delivery, of such a move.

The PSA believes it is vital, to ensure appropriate community service standards are maintained, that public assets should remain in public hands.

“The PSA applauds the Rann Government's move to re-acquire the hospital, and welcomes its ongoing opposition to privatisation.” said Ms McMahon.
