DENTISTS BANS TO ESCALATE

The Public Service Association (PSA) held a meeting at 6:00pm on Wednesday 20 June 2007 which was attended by the majority of Dental Officers employed by the State Government. Country Dental Officers and others who could not attend phoned or emailed their support for Industrial Action. The PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon, PSA President Lindsay Oxlad and PSA Industrial staff attended the meeting.

The work bans voted on at the Stop Work Meeting on Tuesday 19 June were unanimously endorsed and others were added. The PSA advised Dr Tony Sherbon, Chief Executive of the Department of Health in a letter on 20 June 2007 of the bans voted on at the meeting on 19 June. A campaign committee of four dentists was authorised to make future decisions on escalating bans which may include rolling stoppages. The current bans are:

  • Dentists (clinical or management) involved in committees/groups (internal or external to the Organisation), the purpose of which is related to quality, OHS or risk management, cease participation on such groups indefinitely from 20 June 2007.

  • Dentists involved in the tutoring of undergraduate dentists or Bachelor of Oral Health students or TAFE Dental Assistants within Statewide Clinics and/or Adelaide Dental Hospital Clinics where this tutoring role is not their core duty (i.e. not covered within their job and person specification), cease those duties as of 20 June 2007.

  • Dentists involved in the mentoring of dentists with limited dental board registration cease their mentoring role as of 20 June 2007.

  • Keep mobile phones switched on in clinics. This is important for emergency calls and also for the PSA to contact you about any developments. Please advise the PSA of your mobile phone number.

  • Work to rules. In all industrial disputes 'goodwill' is withdrawn to ensure that members do not do extra unpaid work. Observe all lunch breaks, commencement and finishing times.

Further Work Bans will be advised as required.

The PSA officially notifies the Department of Health of Industrial Action authorised by the PSA. The PSA asks that any non-Dental Officer members respect and support the Dental Officers Industrial Action.

Any queries or comments to Industrial Officer Kathy Tsorvas on 8205 3271 (kt@cpsu.asn.au) or Acting Assistant Chief Industrial Officer Ian D Peak on 8205 3294 (ian@cpsu.asn.au).
