LONG SERVICE LEAVE
As previously advised, the Regulations for the taking of Long Services Leave (LSL) have been varied to allow for the taking of LSL in single days. Members may be aware that up until this change, LSL could only be taken for a minimum of 7 days. There has been no change to the manner in which LSL is accrued, nor any change to the number of days available. The PSA has become aware that in particular areas within the Department of Health, there is reluctance, at a Management level, to abide by this amendment. Additionally, the PSA is also aware of a Department of Health Workforce Development memorandum dated 23 July 2007, that was addressed to Chief Executive Officers of both metropolitan and country health centres and hospitals, advising: “advice has been received from the Commissioner for Public Employment that long service leave provisions have been amended with a reduction in the minimum number of days for which long service leave is required to be taken.” Clearly, it is unacceptable that any member is denied the opportunity of utilising this new provision. If members have experienced any difficulties in accessing minimum periods of LSL, please contact the PSA immediately.
