PSA/CPSU has received advice from Dr Tony Sherbon Chief Executive Officer Department of Health of an offer of precautionary tuberculosis (TB) screening to approximately 300 patients and some staff at the Women and Children's Hospital.

This follows the positive testing of a Doctor at the hospital during screening undertaken on 3 and 4 December 2008.

As a precautionary measure, those people identified as possible contacts are being offered screening and some may be offered preventative antibiotics.

The measures are in line with the best international standards.

The Department of Health have identified approx 300 children who were treated at the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Special Care Baby Unit(SBCU).

Staff members at Womens and Children's Hospital will also be offered information about the disease and screening test.
