CREDENTIALING AND DEFINING THE SCOPE OF CLINICAL PRACTICE FOR MEDICAL AND DENTAL PRACTITIONERS

SA Health has released the policy for credentialling and defining the scope of clinical practice for Medical and Dental Practitioners.

THE PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

The purpose of the policy is to define the process for credentialling and defining the scope of clinical practice for Medical Practitioners and Dental Practitioners working in a South Australian public health care facility.

POLICY SCOPE

This policy applies to all medical and dental practitioners who are practising in a public health care facility in South Australia, including:

  • all doctors and dentists in post graduate training

  • career medical officers

  • consultants and specialists

  • clinical academics

  • general practitioners

  • locum tenens

  • dentists

  • pathologists

  • overseas training doctors and dentists, and

  • any other medically or dentally qualified practitioners wishing to provide clinical services.

PSA members can access a copy of the policy on the SA Health web-site located at http://www.health.sa.gov.au under health professionals and Publications/Policies.

SA Health is seeking to have the policy fully implemented by mid 2010.
