REDESIGN OF THE EMERGENCY SURGICAL PATHWAY ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL

The Public Service Association (PSA) has received notification from the Royal Adelaide Hospital that the Emergency Surgical Pathway Redesign has commenced and appropriate consultation processes will continue to occur as this project progresses. The Royal Adelaide Hospital commenced discussions with employees and management approximately 18 months ago to redesign The Emergency Surgical Pathway to provide a streamlined model of care for patients who present at the Emergency Department. This redesign encompasses an Acute Surgical Assessment Unit (ASU) and specifically allocated emergency theatre.

The redesign of the Emergency Surgical Pathways and establishment of an ASU has strategic linkages to:

  • Achieving the requirements of the SA Health Care Plan

  • Model of Care Planning – The New Royal Adelaide Hospital

  • The CNAHS Elective Surgery Strategy (2008)

The Acute Surgical Team works closely with the following departments within the Royal Adelaide Hospital:

  • Anaesthetic Departments

  • Emergency Department

  • Medicine

  • Nursing

  • Operation Room Services

  • Radiology
