LOST ENTITLEMENTS UPDATE

Long Service Leave entitlements for many Public Sector Workers are reduced from today as a result of the 2010 Foley Budget and associated legislation passed by Parliament.

PSA and other Public Sector unions had planned for industrial action today to coincide with this loss of entitlements.

Treasurer Snelling, in delivering the 2011 Budget, stated "we recognise the importance of skills retention in the public sector and will swiftly establish a senior representative group to make recommendations on appropriate inducements designed to retain and recognise experience in the public sector."

The Treasurer has confirmed that the date of effect of any outcome will be 1 July 2011.

As a result of this the proposed action was deferred from 1 July to 29 July.

SA Unions Executive (including the PSA) met today and unanimously agreed to the following resolution.

    SA Unions Executive:

note the progress made in negotiations with Government on the full value
confirm the union position that leave entitlements must be restored to full value,

call on the negotiating team to bring negotiated proposals to the next Executive                         meeting on Tuesday 12 July in order to determine if industrial action is to be called for July 29,

        and

On 12 July Executive also determine the next phase of the campaign in relation to                     meeting other campaign objectives.

Members will be kept informed of developments.
