KNOW YOUR RIGHTS – ON CALL ENTITLEMENTS
It
has come to the attention of the Public Service Association (PSA) that
some members were not receiving the appropriate remuneration when
working on-call. For example, a member was being paid time and a half
when recalled to work on Saturday afternoon. This is incorrect as they
should have been paid double time when recalled on a Saturday afternoon.
For your information, the entitlements are set out below:-
When you are rostered to be on-call during the night, you are entitled
to be paid per night at $26.30 ($27.00 per night from the first pay
period to commence on or after 1 October 2011.)
When you are rostered during a fill Saturday, Sunday, Public Holiday or
any day that you would not normally be rostered on duty, you are
entitled to a paid allowance of $46.10 per day ($47.20 from the first
pay period to commence on or after 1 October 2011.)
Regardless of your classification and salary level, when on-call and
recalled to work, you are entitled to payment of all hours worked with
a minimum of 3 hours pay at overtime rates.
As per the SA Public Sector Salaried Employees Interim Award, overtime rates are calculated according to the follow criteria;
Overtime for Monday to Friday are to be paid at the rate of time and a
half for the first three (3) hours and double time hereafter.
Overtime for working on a Saturday morning are to be paid at a rate of
time and a half for the first three (3) hours and double time hereafter.
Overtime for working on a Saturday afternoon are to be paid at a rate of double time for all hours worked.
Overtime for working on a Sunday are to be paid at the rate of double time for all hours worked.
Overtime for working on a Public Holiday are to be paid at the rate of double time and a half for all hours worked.
Unless specifically agreed to by you, you should not be rostered to be on-call more than a total of 7 days for every 14 days.
