FAMILIES SA BANS

Public Service Association (PSA) Executive met on 5 September 2011 and endorsed members embarking upon an Industrial Campaign in relation to the many issues related to the implementation of the KRONOS time keeping system. The implementation of KRONOS, has caused on-going frustration and much distress to members.

A crisis meeting with PSA Vice President Peter Hewish, Worksite Representatives Geoff Aitchison(Cavan) and Chris Deutrom(Magill) was held with Department for Families & Communities (DFC) representatives in early August 2011. Members indicated that should shift workers be afforded the flexibility to ensure they complete a full shift of 8 hours and 10 minutes should they be late to work, then this would be acceptable and resolve much of the ill feeling of being subjected to KRONOS. An in principle agreement was reached and a confirmation of this agreement was to be provided within a fortnight. The confirmation did not reflect the PSA's understanding of the agreement and members from Magill Training Centre members have imposed the following ban:

  • To clock on at the commencement of shift but not clock off at the completion of shift but to submit a variation form.

Members from Cavan Training Centre are currently afforded the flexibility to ensure a full shift is worked but should DFC remove this flexibility, members will consider imposing bans of their own.

PSA has also been informed that recovery of negative PDO balances has commenced. Again, this action is against agreement. These negative balances, for the most part, were a result of management incorrectly approving leave requests that did not use annual leave entitlements to cover PDO days. These decisions have disadvantaged members. Had members received correct directions, they would have utilised their appropriate entitlements.
