NEWSPAPER COLUMN DEFENDS PUBLIC SECTOR

PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon has defended the role and importance of the Public Sector in a column in today's Advertiser (January 27, 2011, page 19).


Her column fights back against recent media reports which have again suggested there are too many Public Sector employees.


She makes it clear that in fact the crisis facing public sector employment does not involve too many people doing too little - quite the contrary.


The crisis involves the ongoing growth in our State's population, the ageing of our State and reduction in budgets and services, and the importance of retention of skilled public sector workers so necessary to deliver services.
