GOOD OUTCOME FOR PSA MEMBERS PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY POSITIONS TO BE REVIEWED On Wednesday afternoon, 14 March 2007, PSA Worksite Representatives Brian Bingley, Anna Angelakis, and PSA Industrial Officer Josie Barbaro met with SLSA Director Mr Alan Smith, Associate Director Sue Lewis, and DPC HR Manager Bridgid Connors, in relation to a dispute over the advertising of an Archival Processing Officer Position in the weekend paper as an ASO4 instead of a PO position. The dispute highlighted a broader issue of the appropriate classification of professional positions, particularly in the context of the new Professional Officer structure negotiated as part of the South Australian Government Wages (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2006. As all library staff have been informed via email, the discussions were constructive and a commitment given that the Archival Processing Officer position will now be re-advertised as a PO position. Further, on the broader issue of classification, there was a commitment to review Archivist, Librarian and other positions which may fall within the scope of the Professional Officer structure, against the new Work Level Definitions (WLDs). Existing PO positions will also be assessed to ensure they are being remunerated at the appropriate level. Whilst this may be a long process, there is a commitment that the operative date of any changes will be in accordance with the operative dates contained within the Enterprise Agreement, i.e. 1/10/06, and that staff will have an opportunity to be involved. Given the positive outcomes from the meeting, pending written confirmation, the PSA will be withdrawing the dispute. If you have any queries please contact
