PROFESSIONAL OFFICERS AND MEDICAL SCIENTISTS
WORK LEVEL DEFINITIONS The Public Service Association (PSA) is actively pursuing the impending review of the Work Level Definitions (WLDs) contained in Appendix 5 of the South Australian Government Wages Parity (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2006. This review of WLDs will affect some 58 professional disciplines as listed in Schedule 3, SA Public Sector Salaried Employees (Interim) Award 1994 and Medical Scientists (SA Public Sector) Award. Other professional groups eg. Dentists, Accountants, Lawyers are NOT part of this exercise. The Enterprise Bargaining review, which was overwhelmingly endorsed by members, was a result of consultation between the Government and the PSA in October and November of 2006. The review criteria replaces the previous criteria established 15 years ago, and ensures the nuances of Professionals are catered for, by enabling the progression on the basis of advanced practitioner and specialist competencies as well as through the recognition of managerial responsibilities. The Public Sector Workforce Division (PSWD) has expressed its intention to commence the review in January 2008. The PSA reiterates its determination to ensure that the outcomes of the discussions with PSWD in regards to the impending review are in conjunction with its members needs, and ultimately aim to ensure that the objectives of the review benefit PSA members and the Public Sector Workforce. The PSA's stated view is that the WLDs should be more user-friendly, and should be divided into the three categories, ie Senior Practitioner, Clinician, Specialist, and Supervisor. The PSA's view is that the nuances of specific disciplines need to be taken into account. Prior to 1 October 2006, the PO Stream was divided into five homogenous groups which refined the WLDs known as “career group” definitions. The PSA is calling for a representative from each discipline to meet at the PSA in paid time to discuss the further refinement of the curent WLDs. The PSA Professional Division will advise meeting details shortly.
