DOMICILIARY CARE OUTSOURCING MEETING UPDATE
The Public Service Association (PSA) held a meeting of Para Medical Aide (PMA) members at it's Pirie St office on the 9th of January 2008. The meeting was held to discuss Domiciliary Care SA's (DCSA) continued outsourcing of PMA roles and functions. PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon, Assistant General Secretary Nev Kitchin also attended the meeting. The continued outsourcing of these roles contributes to members being refused extra hours, being given opportunities to work afternoon and weekend shifts, members resorting to work second jobs and reduced quality of service to clients. At the meeting, members unanimously endorsed the following motion "That this meeting of members condemns Domiciliary Care SA for the continual practice of outsourcing roles and functions of PMA's, despite the State Government's mandated policy on no further privatisation. Further de-skilling of the PMA role is unacceptable and detrimental to the service delivered to the community. Members demand that management meet with PSA representatives urgently to resolve this matter. It is expected that such a meeting occurs prior to COB Wednesday the 16th January 2008. Should no satisfactory resolution be achieved(i.e. outsourcing ceases), members will meet to consider formal action." The PSA is committed to ensuring that no outsourcing of Public Sector jobs occurs. Therefore, it is essential that members provide feedback or any comments on these matters. Representatives from each work site will essential to ensure a successful outcome. These Representatives will form the Campaign Committee. These Representatives will be responsible for canvasing members opinions and feedback and deserve your support. Following the meeting with management, members will need to meet again to determine future strategies. It will be important to build upon the excellent turn out by members at the last meeting. Encourage your colleagues to attend. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like raised please contact PSA Worksite Representative or PSA Industrial Officer Jean-Guy Townsend on 8205 3233 or jgt@cpsu.asn.au PSA MEMBERS WHO STAND TOGETHER, WIN TOGETHER 11 January 2008
