HEALTH CONSULTANCY FOOD SERVICES MODEL

On Wednesday 26 March PSA Industrial Officer Dolly Costello met with senior Department of Health Officers to discuss the engagement of consultants PriceWaterhouseCoopers to provide advice on a future food services operating model for the metropolitan hospitals system.

The consultancy is part of the planning for the Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital. The outcomes of the consultancy will also be taken into account in the planning of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Glenside Hospital Redevelopments together with planning for future food services in metropolitan hospitals in general.

The consultancy will be providing advice to SA Health on:

  • Global and Australian best practice in multi-hospital food services including advice on appropriate reference sites and commentary on future trends in hospital food services.

  • A comparative analysis of the available food service models having regard to:

  1. The variety, quality and nutrition of food provided for hospital patients through available food service models.

  2. The benefits and risks associated with the implementation and operation of various models.

  3. The cost and efficiency of alternative food service models in the metropolitan Adelaide public hospital system.

  4. The flexibility inherent in alternative food service models to be adapted to emerging technologies, changes in demands for food service requirements or changes in the fundamental costs of production and distribution (e.g. transportation costs).

  • A recommended method, or recommended methods, for the provision of food services in the Adelaide metropolitan and near metropolitan public hospital system from 2016.

PSA as a key stake holder will be consulted throughout the process.
