PUBLIC TRANSPORT DIVISION INFORMATION SERVICES MONITORING AND REPORTING.

INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE

Background

On the 24 April 2008 the PSA wrote to members employed in PTD (IMR) confirming the PSA had filed a dispute notification in the Industrial Relations Commission SA advising that DTEI had failed to consult with the PSA about revised provisions for PTD staff to access Sick Leave.

On Monday 21 April 2008 both the PSA and the PTD met before Commissioner Doyle of the IRCSA to conciliate the dispute.

Outcome

Following recommendations from Commissioner Doyle the PTD and the PSA met Friday 2 May to discuss the matters of dispute. Additionally, the PTD also provided the PSA with a copy of the “Employees Handbook” which prescribes for PTD employees their entitlements and obligations.

Importantly, at the conclusion of the meeting the PSA and the PTD were able to agree the following outcomes:

  • PTD withdraws the requirement for a medical certificate for all sick leave taken greater than “50%” in one financial year and accept other approved certificates.

  • All PTD staff will have the same obligations and entitlements to sick leave as all other DTEI staff, as prescribed in DTEI policy.

  • That PTD would pursue other initiatives to manage staff absenteeism.

  • The PSA and the PTD would continue to consult to ensure there are no other contentious matters contained in the “Employees Handbook”.

The PSA and the PTD met before Commissioner Doyle again on Monday 5 May to confirm the satisfactory resolution of the dispute.
