THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL RENAL TRANSPLANTATION

On Thursday 8 May 2008 PSA Industrial Officer Dolly Costello attended a meeting with Dr Karleen Edwards, Chief Executive Central Northern Adelaide Health Service, and Mr Andrew Zoerner, Project Manager, Renal Service Integration. The meeting was arranged to advise PSA that complex renal services, including the Renal Transplant Service, are moving from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) to create an integrated renal service across Central Northern Adelaide Health Service (CNAHS).

The move is in line with the new roles for the hospitals as outlined in the South Australian Health Care Plan. The move will enable The Queen Elizabeth Hospital to allocate the capital works funding set aside for the hospital's new role, focusing on services to the elderly, expanded rehabilitation and palliative care services. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital will also become a satellite service for western suburb residents requiring dialysis, outpatient treatment and patients requiring elective procedures or treatment.

Staffing for the new service has not been determined at this stage, it is expected that some staff will move to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and some will remain at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital to facilitate the remaining services.

Discussions will commence shortly on the development of Human Resource principles.

As a key stake holder the PSA will be consulted throughout the process.
