SKILLS SHORTAGES
Last
week, the State Government announced the strengthening of it's
Training and Skills Commission, with additional members and a new
Chair, Professor Denise Bradley.
The Commission will, as its major focus, identify skills shortages across South Australia. The Public Sector, as a major employer, continues to be confronted with the skills shortage crisis. For some time, the PSA has identified this issue through it's Budget submissions and public comment as a major challenge facing the State Government. It is for this reason, the PSA has commenced research on issues such as staffing vacancy levels across all portfolios. The PSA is also aware that various Agencies may not have vacancies, but often utilise less qualified people to fill roles requiring a higher qualification. The PSA will make a submission to the Commission, together with ongoing representations to Government. Members may assist the PSA by providing data that assists in identifying areas that are affected by the skills shortage crisis. Please contact your relevant Industrial Officer should you be able to contribute to this matter, or fax material to the PSA on 8223 6509 or email enquiries@cpsu.asn.au
