TO ALL PSA MEMBERS IN COUNTRY HEALTH OVER 300 PUBLIC HEALTH JOBS TO BE LOST IN THE COUNTRY Due to the State Government's decisions over 300 positions in country
health will be transferred to the city based Shared Services SA.
Government has planned that positions undertaking the functions of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable will transfer in late November 2008. Government is planning for 2009 that Human Resources (HR) including Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare and Workers Compensation as well as procurement positions will transfer to the city. Information Technology (IT) positions are being considered. Due
to pressure put on the Government by the PSA and the country
communities the occupants of positions will not be compelled to
transfer to the city and can elect to stay in the country.
The PSA has many concerns for the immediately affected PSA members as well as all members in Country Health. PSA has written to the Government and all country Members of Parliament (MP) insisting that employees not suffer any financial loss and receive all future pay rises and incremental increases. This is reiterating the PSA's previously stated position to which the Government has not agreed. PSA is insisting that members affected be adequately retrained to be able to undertake other jobs. PSA is concerned about the impact on other employees of the loss of the on site services of payroll, HR etc. The loss of these positions also means less job opportunities for country residents. The Government should be creating job opportunities in the country, not reducing them. Country SA needs the economic advantages of local public sector jobs. Contact the PSA and your local MP with your concerns for the local community and contact the PSA about what Industrial Action you can take.
