PSA WIN IN COMMUNITY YOUTH JUSTICE  ISSUE, FAMILIES SA

Public Service Association Vice President Peter Hewish, PSA members from the Youth Justice Directorate and Acting Assistant Chief Industrial Officer Ian Peak met with Joslene Mazel, Chief Executive from Department for Families and Communities in December 2008 to raise concerns that the decision to classify the case manager position as PO1 in the Community Youth Justice Program had denied career opportunities for youth workers employed in Families SA.

PSA requested consideration be given to maintain the classification of the position beyond transition to maintain career opportunities for its OPS members.  PSA has now received correspondence from the department indicating a preparedness to maintain the transitional position of OPS 4 within Case Management Services for a period of 5 years.  The department has reiterated its intention to support staff in gaining professional  qualifications.

All PSA members who believe they meet the criteria for selection to the case manager (OPS 4) positions in Community Youth Justice are encouraged to apply for vacant positions.

Please contact Industrial Officer Vanessa Ravenhill on 82053251 or vr@cpsu.asn.au if you have any queries.
