SAFEWORK SA - UPDATE
The PSA has been active in relation to a number of matters at the Agency recently.

(1) Establishment of a PSA/Safework Consultative Committee

The Committee meets on a regular basis to discuss a range of issues affecting members. Your representatives are Chris Houghton, Luis Cuevas, Barry Shaw and John D'Aloia and Sonya Sprandreou (Waymouth St).

Management representatives include Juanitta Lovatt, Joe Paparella and Peter Hampton.

The Committee is a useful forum which enables members to have an input on issues affecting them including the decision by the the SA Government to participate in the National IR system. As Safework is the lead agency in this matter this decision will have a significant impact on IR Inspectors .

(2) Workplace Issues

The PSA has also written to the Agency calling on them to

a) Provide a comprehensive training program for those workers affected

by the new IR system including the Help and Early Intervention Centre group.

Other issues include:

b) Establishment of a fair and effective system to facilitate a system of transition between IR and OHS Inspector positions.

c) Full consultation during the development of a rostering system for the HEIC group. An equitable rostering arrangement is needed so that Inspectors can provide relief for their Help and Early Intervention Centre colleagues as required.

d) Work on the Job and Person Specifications for OHS Inspectors.

The PSA has had a number of long standing concerns which have been identified in earlier correspondence (available from Steve Acton). A working party comprising union and management nominees is examining the proposal and will report back to the next meeting of the Committee. Expert advice is being sought to ensure that any changes to the Job and Person Specifications are consistent with with the classification criteria applicable within the South Australian Public Sector.

(3) New Complaints Procedure

After lengthy negotiations and following an independent review, an interim agreement has been reached between the PSA and the Agency regarding a new complaints procedure. This will ensure that when a complaint has been made by the public to the Agency, it's employees will be treated fairly and expeditiously.

(4) Enterprise Bargaining

The current Agreement between the Government and the Association will expire in December of this year. The issues surrounding the forthcoming negotiations for its replacement will be discussed at the next meeting of members. Your input into the new claim by the Association is most welcome.

(5) Waymouth Street

A meeting was held on 15 July and a new Workplace Representative (Sonya Spandreou) and a Deputy Workplace Representative(Narinia Zacharia) were elected. Members also received a report on the forthcoming Enterprise Bargaining process.
