PSA/CPSU SSO NATIONAL RECOGNITION WEEK
The
PSA once again encourages all SSOs to join in celebrations during PSA
/CPSU National Recognition Week.
PSA/CPSU SSO National Recognition Week was established by the PSA/CPSU nationally in 2001 and the participation by schools has been growing since then. During Recognition Week each year CPSU/PSA members and all schools across Australia celebrate the important work of SSOs. South Australian schools should already have received their PSA Recognition Week Campaign kit with information, posters and stickers to support schools in their celebrations. PSA/CPSU SSO National Recognition Week has proved so successful that DECS now acknowledge the week in their calendar and the PSA is very pleased to see that the Teachers through the AEU have now come on board to assist us to celebrate the week and highlight the vital contribution of SSOs in Public Education. The PSA in South Australia is holding an SSO Conference again this year. The feedback from previous years has been very positive. PSA's SSO Conferences are an excellent opportunity for SSOs to network, to hear informative speakers and discuss relevant issues of concern to SSOs. An outcome achieved through our Conference last year was a commitment from the DECS Chief Executive to re establish the Permanency Working Party. PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon presented the disturbing statistics on temporary/casual employment amongst SSOs, secured a meeting with the Chief Executive to discuss the issue further and agreement was reached to look at the issue. The PSA also included Permanency in it's Enterprise Bargaining claim and will continue during the Arbitration process and beyond to fight for job security for SSOs. The PSA wishes all SSOs a very enjoyable SSO Week and looks forward to hearing about how you celebrated in your school. WORK TOGETHER WIN TOGETHER 23 July 2009
