PSA MEETS WITH HEALTH CHIEF EXECUTIVE
On
Thursday 27 August 2009, senior PSA officials met with Health Chief
Executive, Dr Tony Sherbon. PSA was represented by General Secretary
Jan McMahon, Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher and Senior
Industrial Officer Dolly Costello.
The following key agenda items were discussed:-
ERNST & YOUNG REVIEW
PSA sought detailed information regarding the impact of the Review,
This included the effect upon remaining Health staff following the loss
of a significant number of jobs. PSA recognised that cuts were a result
of the Government decision that Health is to lose 428 FTE positions. Dr
Sherbon advised that detailed information would be provided and a
further meeting held. It is expected many of the cuts will occur next
financial year.
NATIONAL REGISTRATION SCHEME
The Council of Australian Governments (COAG), in 2007,agreed on an
arrangement for a new national system for the registration of health
professionals and the accreditation of their training and education
programs.
The new national system will initially cover the following health professions;
Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Therapists,
Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Chiropractors,
Optometrists, Osteopaths, Medical Practitioners, Nurses and Mid-Wives.
Work is continuing on the establishment of the new system which is expected to be operational by 1 July 2010.
ENTERPRISE BARGAINING
PSA advised that it was finalising its claim for the next Enterprise
Agreement. It is to be based upon a package comprising a universal pay
increase, protection of job security and all current employment
conditions, improvements to a number of conditions, and a schedule
specifically related to Allied Health which is being developed in
conjunction with affected members.
