MAGILL TO BE REPLACED

In a major announcement Premier Rann has announced that the Magill Training Centre will be replaced by a 60-bed, $67 million facility on Goldsborough Road at Cavan.

The new Centre is expected to open in the second half of 2011.

In addition, Minister Rankine advised that $4 million would be immediately spent on both the Magill Centre and Cavan which would care for the younger offenders once the new Goldsborough Road facility opens.

The announcement follows a sustained PSA and community campaign and is a testament to the resolve and persistence of PSA members at Magill with support across the PSA.

The PSA welcomes the long-overdue decision that finally recognises that the outmoded Centre, the worst of its kind in Australia, had to go.

The PSA expects to be fully consulted on the new facility to ensure that it is properly resourced and that all Occupational Health Safety and Welfare requirements are met.
