Q FEVER

Dr Tony Sherbon, Chief Executive Department of Health, has advised the PSA that two SA Pathology (IMVS) staff have contracted Q Fever. Up to 150 staff may now need to be tested.

The infected Adelaide laboratory will be closed for decontamination for between one and two weeks.

Dr Sherbon will keep PSA fully informed of developments.

Health Authorities will provide relevant advice of a medical nature.

PSA members requiring any other advice should contact Acting Senior Industrial Officer (Health Team) Sue Cummins (sc@cpsu.asn.au) or the PSA Members Rights Hotline (08) 8205 3227 if assistance is required.

PSA has sought, and received assurances, that staff will not suffer financial loss as a result of this situation.

PSA will work with Department of Health to ensure that non-medical protocols are put in place to deal with this situation in addition to the medical arrangements.

Further details are available on the Department of Health website.
