PROPOSED SA HEALTH CREDENTIALLING ALLIED & SCIENTIFIC HEALTH PROFESSIONAL POLICY
The
Public Service Association (PSA) recently received an update on the
progress of the proposed Credentialling of Allied and Scientific Health
Professionals across SA Health.
Initial Credentialling and Re-Credentialling of professionals is a
corporate governance responsibly undertaken by each Health Care
Facility, Regions and Professional Bodies to ensure that all
independently practising professionals are appropriately qualified as a
part of protecting patients/clients/consumers and providing high
quality professional care.
Both the South Australian Safety and Quality Framework and Strategy
(2007-2011) and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in
Health Care (ACSQHC) identify Accreditation, Registration and
Credentialling as a national priority. The PSA understands that
in April 2008, SA Health Risk Management and Internal Audit identified
that current practices for credentialling were lacking consistency and
did not meet the requirements of the National Standard created by the
Australian Council for Safety and Quality in Health Care and,
therefore, considered unsatisfactory.
As a result the draft SA Health Allied and Scientific Health
Credentialling Policy and Regional Procedure (see attached) has been
developed through a Steering Committee with broad representation across
SA Health and is now out for consultation.
