"DO IT FOR LIFE" PROGRAM FUNDING SLASHED
Yesterday
afternoon, the PSA received correspondence from the Acting
Deputy Executive Director, Workforce of the Department of Health
advising of the "redirection" of funds that are currently
allocated to the 'Do it for Life" Lifestyle Risk Factor
Modification Program (DIFL)
This
program was set up with an aim to reduce risk factors for adults at
high risk of developing preventable chronic diseases.
The
program employees Lifestyle Advisors and Lifestyle Officers who
assess, monitor, support and provide feedback to patients.
However,
despite the obvious social benefits of such a program, the Department
has advised that the funding for this initiative will be slashed - to
apply from 1 July 2010 (ie today)
Funding
cuts will result in a loss of up to 20 FTE for this valuable service
to the community.
Despite
the obvious lack of commitment to genuine consultation as outlined in
the current Enterprise Agreement by the Department of Health, it is
unacceptable that such a vital service to the South Australian
community is being cut to shreds.
Yesterday,
the PSA lodged a formal dispute with the Department of Health.
Jobs
cuts equals service cuts. The PSA will keep members informed of
progress.
