GLENSIDE NEW FACILITIES UPDATE

On Friday 16 September 2011 the Public Service Association (PSA) attended the Glenside New Mental Health Facilities Consultative Committee meeting.

The new facilities are for 129 beds, including hubs for Acute, Rehabilitation, Activity Centre and Front of House.  New facilities for Drug & Alcohol Services SA (DASSA) and Helen Mayo House are also being built on the campus.

An extraordinary meeting was also convened to discuss the 'Allocated Workstations and Office Space' by disciplines for Front of House, Rehabilitation and the Acute Hubs. At that meeting the PSA raised concerns about a number of required clinical positions that have not been allocated workstations or office space. The PSA understands that discussions are occurring about where these positions will be accommodated.  Other options are also being explored, eg renting accommodation in the yet to be built Precinct 3 and positions that could be accommodated off site.  The unions have requested a list of these positions.

The PSA also raised spacial and security concerns for the reception areas.  A revised plan for  the Acute Reception will be released shortly.

The PSA have requested a similar briefing for Rural & Remote in relation to workstations and office space for the disciplines that will be accommodated within the Acute Hub.

A total of 20 Supported Accommodation Units have been completed and the selected clients have moved in.  The Glynde Building is now due for demolition.  These Units are privately operated with public sector clinicians in-reaching from the Eastern Community Team. The PSA has been advised that there are additional resources being attached to the Team. The increase in workloads will need to be monitored and will be included in the  next phase of consultation as the Eastern Adult Mental Health Community Region integrates.

The Integrated Model of Care (IMOC) for the New Facilities is being updated and will be released for consultation in October.

The Food Services Working Group is meeting regularly. The PSA is concerned that the development of the Food Services Model has not been completed and is likely to be an outsourced model despite Allied Health and Nursing staff previously providing feedback that a preferred food model would include fresh food being prepared on site.

The unions raised concerns that the OH&S Representative Committees at Glenside may not have met since June 2010. Confirmation was requested that representatives have been appointed for each area and are meeting regularly in accordance with the legislative requirements prescribed by the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1995.
