EB 2004 UPDATE - SA vs VIC

Members are aware that the South Australian Government EB offer is for 3.5% pa, with 4% pa for ASO 1-3 or equivalent.

PSA has previously advised that if an offer of 10% over 2 years was received that this would be recommended to members.

In this week's edition of the Industrial Relations Newsletter "Workforce", South Australian Industrial Relations Minister, Michael Wright is quoted as saying " the government's offer compared favourably to other states, including the Victorian public service deal".

Let's look at the Victorian deal. Victorian Public Sector workers will receive salary increases made up of a combined EB increase and a progression payment. Progression payments on 1 July each year, ranging from a minimum of 2% up to 3.7%.

Victorian salary and progression adjustments will be paid on the following basis:

3% with effect 1 March 2004
2% - 3.7% with effect 1 July 2004
3% with effect 1 October 2004
2% - 3.7% with effect 1 July 2005
3% with effect 1 October 2005
2% - 3.7% with effect 1 July 2006
3% with effect 1 October 2006
2% - 3.7% with effect 1 July 2007
1.5% with effect 1 September 2007

13 weeks paid maternity leave, with a move to 14 weeks within 12 months.

Occupational specific classification structures are still being negotiated.

Looking at the total take home pay increases to be paid in Victoria, members are justified in their view that the South Australian offer is unreasonable.

Compare your 'take home' pay offer to the Victorian deal! It's not even close!
