ENTERPRISE BARGAINING 2004 - SUCCESSFUL STOPPAGE

PSA members right across the state showed overwhelming support for Friday's stoppage.

The very successful action included pickets and protests in major city sites and regional centres, including Mt. Gambier, Pt. Augusta and Pt. Lincoln.  There were public sector closures everywhere.

PSA members clearly demonstrated that they feel undervalued and do not believe the government's offer is fair.  The members who took action did so because of their commitment to the public sector and the provisions of quality public services.  They do not want to see the public sector fall behind and become a second rate workplace.

Friday's public sector strike was a significant event.  Public sector workers have shown that they are serious about being treated fairly and their work being valued.  Over recent years over 34,000 jobs have been lost in the public sector.  The remaining workers have had to change and adapt to doing more and more with less and less.  This commitment and willingness to work in new environments is not acknowledged by this Government offer.  Public sector workers have had enough.  The extent of the strike action demonstrates public sector workers dissatisfaction with Government.

Public sector workers across agencies have worked together for this day of action to achieve a fair deal for all public sector workers.  Well done!
