MEMBERS WELCOME IRC DECISION

On Friday 11 June 2004, PSA Worksite Representatives met and endorsed the following motions in relation to Enterprise Bargaining 2004.

MOTION 1:

That this meeting :

  • Demands that all Public Sector Workers be treated fairly,

  • Condemns the Minister for Industrial Relations for a pay offer which is 2% less than made to Nurses,

  • Calls upon the Minister to enter into genuine and meaningful negotiations, which recognise the valuable work undertaken by PSA members.

MOTION 2:

That this meeting :

  • Welcomes the decision of DP Hampton which rejects the Government's application to end Enterprise Bargaining by creating a new award, and

  • Requires the Government to return to negotiations.

MOTION 3:

That this meeting:

  • Supports the PSA continuing to promote the value of the work undertaken by PSA members, even during times when Industrial Action is not being undertaken.

The PSA's claim is for 6% per annum.

The Association has previously, as a sign of good faith, advised the Employer that if an offer of 5% pa was made then PSA would recommend its acceptance to members.

The Government failed to utilise this opportunity.

The Association's claim therefore remains 6% per annum.

Considering the recent offer provided to Nurses (5.5%) which is well deserved, the Association's claim is both fair and reasonable.

The Parties will be reconvening before Deputy President Hampton of the Industrial Relations Commission of SA on Thursday 17 June 2004.

The PSA will keep members informed of progress. Members are reminded that all Industrial Action has been suspended.
