ALLOWANCES INCREASED

The following allowances are to be increased from the first pay period on or after the 27 July 2004.

This follows the PSA's application in the Industrial Commission on 15 July 2004 for the annual increases in the S.A. Public Sector Salaried Employees (Interim) Award (SAPSSEI).

Motor Vehicle Allowance

Use of employees own motor vehicle 62 cents per kilometre.

Use of employees own motor cycle 25 cents per kilometre

Permanent Transfer of Head Quarters or Combination of official – private use

17 cents per kilometre for car, 7 cents for motor cycle

First Aid Allowance

$10.65 per week.

Clauses 5.3.2.4, 5.3.2.5 SAPSSEI.

Dental Nurses Radiography Allowance

$542 per annum SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.12.1

Supervising Radiography Allowance

$2.75 per shift. SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.8

Field Officer (Sole) Allowance

$1,057 per annum. SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.8.1, 5.3.8.2

Academic Allowance

$435 per annum. (For ASO1 who prior to June 1991 was in receipt of this allowance only). SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.9

Fisheries Officer Allowance

Commercial vessel in excess of 12 metres in length.

For each 24 hour period or part thereof whilst at sea. SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.13

Diving Allowance – For employees who are required to dive in the normal course of their duties. SAPSSEI Clause 5.3.17

An experienced Diver shall be paid $26.60 per week experienced Diver

As a Supervising Diver $19.45 per day

An employee who on any day performs work as a diver

$36.10 per day for experienced Diver

$28.75 If a trainee per day

$14.20 per day for Diver's Attendant

N.B. Though these new rates come into effect from first pay period on or after 22 July 2004 there is delay in pay offices receiving official authority to pay as

        1. The minutes from the Industrial Commission need to be agreed to

        2. DAIS then advise Departments

        3. Department Health advise Health Units and Hospitals. This can take 6 weeks.

On-Call Allowance

This is paid through the SA Government Wages Parity Enterprise Agreement.

$11.70 per night

$23.10 Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.

These are increased by the same percentage as the wage increase. Last increase

1 October 2003 was 4% in parity with a 4% pay rise. Vote NO to the current Government proposed 3.5% so that PSA can achieve a higher increase.

Recreational Leave Loading

The ceiling in the Public Service (Recreational Leave Loading) Award has been increased to $573.20 for one full entitlement of annual leave from 1 July 2004. If however the penalties and allowances payable had the employee not been on holidays exceed $573.20, the higher amount is paid.

Meal Allowances and Accommodation

Meal Allowances are increased annually by the relevant CPI. The last increase was 23 December 2003. PSA will be making application to increase these next from 23 December 2004.
