3.5% INTERIM AWARD INCREASE TO BE PAID TODAY

The majority of Public Sector Workers covered by the 'SA Government (Public Sector Salaried Employees) Salaries Interim Award 2004' can look forward to receiving the recently awarded 3.5% Interim Award payment today.

The increase took effect from the first pay period commencing on or after 1 October 2004.

In some areas, back payment will occur in the next fortnightly pay period or early 2005.

The delay in members receiving this increase has been caused by the Government's opposition to an interim payment, which forced the PSA to argue for an interim payment before the South Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

In relation to future arbitration, the PSA is continuing to prepare its case. Research and preparation is occurring on a daily basis to enable the best possible case to be put before the Commission once hearing dates have been set.

Training Wage

Following the PSA's application to the South Australian Industrial Relations Commission, persons undertaking a Traineeship within the Aboriginal Education Workers (DETE) Award, SA Public Sector Salaried Employees Interim Award, Early Childhood Worker Award, School Services Officers (Government Schools) Award have been awarded a pay increase.

New rates will be applicable from the first pay period on or after 13th November 2004.

The increases are consistent with the National Training Wage Award increases.

It is expected that the new trainee rates will be paid in early 2005, with backpay payments.
