PSA WITNESSES CONCLUDE - GOVERNMENT CASE STARTS.

The Full Bench today finished hearing evidence from PSA witnesses.

Government presented an outline of its case and called its witnesses.

The Government has put to the Bench that a salary increase the same as defeated at ballot is appropriate i.e.

October 2004 and October 2005 - 3.5% Above ASO3 or equivalent

                                                    - 4.0% ASO1 – ASO3 or equivalent

In addition, the Government detailed five principles that it proposed the Commission take into account:

1. An appropriate wage increase.

2. Cost impact on Government.

3. Movements in range of economic indicators.

4. General wage movements throughout the Community.

5. Particular wage movements in the Community for markets from which Government is looking to recruit employees.

The PSA does not agree with the Government's submission.

The case is continuing, with the Government witnesses to be cross examined by the PSA on 18 April 2005. The Case is expected to conclude on 22 April 2005, after which the Bench will consider its Decision.
