NATIONAL
DAY OF PROTEST
PROTECT
YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK
TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2005
Commencing at 8am ELDER PARK On Tuesday 15 November 2005, the Nation will have its biggest worker and community meeting protesting against the Federal Government's plans to change Australia's workplace laws. The changes will affect all workers, including public sector workers, and their families. The impact of the Federal Government's proposed Industrial Relations changes to legislation (if passed by the Federal Parliament) will result in South Australian workers, including PSA members, losing the current protection provided by State Awards, as a natural consequence of the abolition of the State Industrial Jurisdiction. Awards currently define many basic conditions such as penalty payments and leave. On Tuesday 15 November 2005, the biggest Adelaide community event held in years will occur at Elder Park commencing at 8am. In another first, a Sky channel broadcast will enable workers, their families and the community across the Nation to unite against these proposals. Further information relating to bus transport and other relevant material will be provided shortly. For regional members, a number of centrally located sites will be established to enable participation in the event. Details will be forthcoming. Additionally, PSA Industrial Officers will continue to conduct worksite visits discussing the proposed changes and their impact. Should you have any queries, or require further meetings relating to Federal IR, please do not hesitate to contact your PSA Industrial Officer or Simon Johnson of the PSA on email spj@cpsu.asn.au or phone 8205 3261. 30 September 2005
