"YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR"

COMMUNITY RALLY - TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2005

Tuesday 15th November 2005 Rally at Elder Park 8.00am

(Breakfast will be available from 7.00am)

The Prime Minister's proposed Industrial Relations changes represent an assault on your working conditions, your family and your Union. The following entitlements are at great risk;

All Awards and Enterprise Agreements

Penalty Rates

Allowances

Some Public Holidays

Paid Trade Union Training Leave

Your overall future income and that of your family and

A number of other working conditions and rights.

Public Sector Workers and their families WILL NOT be immune to this draconian legislation.

PSA urges as many members as possible to attend this Rally, bring your family and friends. A giant super screen will be erected in Elder Park and the event will centre around a special Sky Channel presentation involving key speakers and a number of well known Australian actors, comedians, sporting personalities, singers, community leaders and workers.

This will be a unique event in our history and we need as many people as possible to attend. The event is supported by the South Australian Government. There will be a simulcast broadcast to all main regional locations. Refreshments and merchandise will be available on the morning and a special fleet of buses will collect people from numerous locations and ferry them to Elder Park and then back to their work locations. Details of the bus locations and timetables will be available shortly.

The Sky Channel broadcast will commence at 8.30am sharp and conclude at 9.30am, after which there will be a march to Parliament House, where speakers will address the crowd.

A Radio, TV and print media campaign will commence shortly to highlight this event. Many Government departments will be affected, providing skeleton staff only on the day of the Rally. Members should also take into account that schools may be affected that morning, and that traffic restrictions will apply around Elder Park.

What you can do to help;

  • Be at the Rally with fellow members and friends.

  • Help us to join up non-members. The Federal Government has unlimited access to our taxes in their media campaign. Membership fees will help us to promote our messages and to ensure you are aware of how these changes will affect you and your family.

  • Educate yourself about the proposed IR changes by going to the PSA website (www.cpsu.asn.au) and the ACTU website (www.actu.asn.au)

  • Send an email voicing your concerns to Senators Joyce and Fielding by going to this website - www.getup.org.au/campaign/ItsUpToYou

  • Be active, become involved, your standard of living and that of your family is under threat.

  • Phone Radio talk-back shows and ask questions.

  • Sign the postcards provided on Rally day.

  • Arrange a workplace meeting to discuss the Government's “WorkChoices” document by contacting your PSA Industrial Officer or PSA Industrial Officer, Simon Johnson on 8205 3261 or email: spj@cpsu.asn.au

  • Put a “Your Rights at Work” bumper sticker on your car.

  • Come to a PSA half day training session on the proposed legislation. This is paid trade union training leave. Further details on training courses will follow.

  • Change your union contributions from payroll deductions to direct debit (the Federal Government is removing PRD from Awards).

  • If you do not have an existing union worksite representative in your area, get organised now. For information on becoming a worksite representative please contact your PSA Industrial Officer or PSA Industrial Officer, Josie Barbaro on 8205 3295 or email: jxb@cpsu.asn.au

If you want to continue to have the right to be protected and represented by your own Union, and enjoy the benefits won over the past 120 years, then it's time to act. The battle lines are being drawn up, be there with all of your fellow members, family and friends.
