ALLOWANCES AND REIMBURSEMENTS INCREASED FOR PSA MEMBERS

The State Industrial Relations Commission has approved the application to increase the following allowances from 23/12/2005.

NEW RATES

Tea Money: $13.45

Where an employee by direction finishes work 2 hours or more after their normal finishing time, or is required to work on a Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday when they are not normally required to work, they will be paid a meal allowance of $13.45 if they work through the period they would normally take their evening meal break.

Other Meal: $9.35

When an employee is required to work 2 hours before normal starting time, or if required to work on Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday not normally worked they will be paid for a meal break other than dinner, an allowance of $9.35.

These meal allowances are not paid if the agency supplies a meal to the employee.

Clause 5.3 of the SA Public Sector Salaried Employees (Interim) Award (SAPSSE(I) and Clause 5.3 of the Medical Scientists Award.

The amounts have been increased by 3% in accordance with the Consumer Price Index (C.P.I.) for the 4 quarters up to October 2005.

Travel Allowances

Travel within South Australia and away over night:

Breakfast $14.15

Lunch $14.15

Dinner $29.15

Incidentals $5.90

Where not away over night, and relevant conditions are satisfied:

Breakfast $12.25

Dinner $17.50


Interstate Capitals and Alice Springs

Breakfast $18.45

Lunch $18.45

Dinner $33.75

Incidentals $9.75

Tax invoices or receipts are not required for allowances. Allowances are amounts paid to cover anticipated costs or as compensation for conditions of employment.

Incidentals Allowance for attending Residential Programmes

$20.80 per course day for course more than 2 weeks duration. $9.75 per day for course 2 weeks or less. (SAPSSE(I) Award clause 8.6)

Employee accommodated in Government owned quarters or facilities

An allowance of $25.45 per day if required to provide own food.

An allowance of $3.20 per day if required to provide own bedding and eating utensils.

An allowance of $4.65 per day if required to use additional items.

Accommodation Reimbursement

Tax invoices and receipts must be provided.

South Australia

Metropolitan Adelaide up to $100.00 per night

Outside Metropolitan Adelaide up to $86.00 per night

Interstate

Alice Springs up to $102.00 per night

Brisbane up to $126.00 per night

Canberra up to $97.00 per night

Darwin up to $102.00 per night

Hobart up to $107.00 per night

Melbourne up to $151.00 per night

Perth up to $98.00 per night

Sydney up to $132.00 per night

Other up to $86.00 per night

Accommodation rates are increased after an annual survey of a group of the same representative accommodation.

As the allowances and reimbursements in the Award were increased in the South Australian Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) on Wednesday 8 February 2006, pay offices will not yet be advised of the increase.

Members should keep records to ensure that they are paid the new rates from 23/12/05 where applicable.

Other allowances, e.g. First Aid Allowance (clause 5.3.2.4) and Motor Vehicle (clause 8.7) SAPSSE(I) Award were increased from 22/7/05 by 3.2% as per the Safety Net Increase (SNA).

The On-Call Allowances in the SAPSSE(I) Award (clause 5.3) are the Safety Net increases and are below the rates PSA negotiated which are in the SA Government (Public Sector Salaried Employees) Arbitrated Enterprise Bargaining Award 2004 (clause S.2.3) which are the applicable rates.

Further increases in allowances may be negotiated in the coming round of Enterprise Bargaining.

A number of other changes have been made to the SAPSSE(I) Award as advised in brief “Improvements in Award Conditions” dated 22 December 2005.
