ODPP ORGANISATIONAL REVIEW & WORKLOADS

The PSA has reported to members on the initial meeting of the Consultative Committee and the delay in the release of the ODPP Review Recommendations (5/5/06 Brief).

PSA Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher and Industrial Officer Josie Barbaro have since had the opportunity to meet with ODPP General Manager Murray Fopp. At this meeting the PSA made it clear that regardless of the delays in the Review, some of the issues facing PSA members require urgent attention, workloads in particular. ODPP Management have indicated that they are aware of issues in relation to the welfare of ODPP staff and the high work demands they face.

The SA Government (Public Sector Salaried Employees) Arbitrated Enterprise Bargaining Award 2004 states under Clause S2.4 Occupational Health Safety and Welfare, S2.4.3 "In establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, an agency will not require an employee to have an unreasonable workload in the ordinary discharge of the employee's duties."

The PSA is preparing submissions to Government regarding the Treasurer's announcement regarding potential cuts and the Public Sector Reform agenda, which also encompasses the Justice Portfolio.

There is a scheduled meeting of team leaders on Monday 15th May to discuss issues including staff workloads, and the PSA have requested attendance at this meeting.

There is also a scheduled Consultative Committee meeting at 5pm to finalise terms of reference for the Committee. The Committee will be an important forum to discuss and document issues affecting staff.

Members are asked to relay any concerns or issues to their staff representative or to Josie Barbaro on ph: 8205 3297, email: jxb@cpsu.asn.au

Any feedback may be made in confidence. The PSA will ensure that these issues are taken up on behalf of members.
