"SAY NO TO UNFAIR LAWS - BE AT THE 28TH JUNE RALLY, VICTORIA SQUARE, ADELAIDE."

Many Australian workers and their families are being adversely affected day after day by the Workchoices Legislation. We must show these workers our support, and show the Government that their radical laws will not be forgotten.

A recent Senate Estimates Committee was told by a Senior Government official that every individual contract (AWA) registered under the new laws has taken away at least one protected award condition. In addition:

  • Annual leave loading has been erased in 64% of AWAs under the new laws

  • Penalty rates have disappeared in 63% of AWAs

  • Shift allowance have been removed in 52% of AWAs

  • 16% have dropped all Award conditions for the Government's 5 minimum conditions

  • 40% have dropped gazetted public holidays

  • 22% contain no pay increases over the life of the Award

These are frightening statistics which will have an impact on all working Australians and their families in some way. The State Government has committed to maintaining job security and existing conditions of service while opposing the use of Australian Workplace Agreements. It is essential, however, that PSA members support the "Your Rights at Work, Worth Fighting For” Campaign.
